Illustrator John Kennenstein calls his dark «Sticky Notes» illustrations of child-eating monsters, vampires, spiders, and ghouls «a salute to the world’s misfits.»
Mortensen, who has also created children’s television shows, lives, and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. In a 2014 interview, he classified himself as an «eccentric» from the classes. His idea does not «fit» into the «code of conduct» of the art scene. His artwork is very much in the same spirit as fellow grimster Edward Gorey, and Mortensen’s micro-illustrations are as flawless as they are terrifying. Especially when it comes to vampire clowns that eat children. Here some of his work.
